1) An opinion is something that a person holds that may not be fully supported by evidence. A belief is something that a person holds with no evidence whatsoever. And knowledge is something that a person has that is completely based on logic and evidence.
2) When they have considered the situation from a logical standpoint and weighed all the costs and benefits of their decision.
An opinion is a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge. A belief is trust, faith, or confidence in someone or something. Knowledge is facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education. I agree with Keith that one must weigh out the costs and benefits to act rationale, but also that person must have the motive and reasoning to act rationale. They must truly believe that the issue they are deciding on is going to be for the better and is just.
What is the difference between opinion, belief, and knowledge? 2. How do you know when someone is acting rationally?
Your opinion is a general statement, usually based on general beliefs. Your opinion of, say, smoking cigarettes is wrong morally, because your beliefs are that smoking is harmful to your body given by a divine being, religion, or other things your personal moral compass is based on. Your opinions are guided by your directing beliefs. You opinion of a movie is that "it's a good movie" because your beliefs follow that "good visuals and story makes a good movie", so all of your opinions based on all movies is based on that belief. Knowledge, however, are FACTS you KNOW and, whether you believe it or not, are supported by evidence. Your knowledge of a movie is that it is based on a true story, has "good" actors (which, again, will be treated as opinion. But, for the sake of argument, we'll measure "goodness of acting" based on general public consensus and reward count), and/or a high budget. Your knowledge can affect your beliefs and opinion. Maybe your newly found knowledge of what goes into a movie makes you appreciate the hard work and movies in general, so your beliefs are altered so your opinion of what makes a good movie is expanded (or narrowed). Knowledge can also reinforce your current beliefs. But, the take away from knowledge is that you have seemed facts and accepted them into your head. Because, if one wanted to, they could completely ignore facts to retain their ignorance/limited knowledge.
Oh, and how do you know if someone is acting rationally. I guess the only way would be to have certain red flags that would show they are acting IRRATIONALLY. Like, if someone was acting based on emotion: if someone sees a really cool commercial for a product, they get excited and go out and buy this product....well, they just acted on their excitement that that ad has elicited in them. Also, if someone was emotionally distraught, being hysteric, and crying and tells the doctor to do X, they probably aren't clear-headed. In fact, Peyton Manning said after the super bowl, that his parents always said not to make decisions while in an emotional state, when asked about his retirement from the NFL.
They would also need to be coherent and understand the benefits, drawbacks, consequences, etc.
I think your definition of knowledge is perfect. It is the only one of the three that is supported with the most evidence. The other two are usually based off of personal experience. Knowledge is Power!
1. What is the difference between opinion, belief, and knowledge? An opinion is something that you have a personal standpoint on, not everyone will agree with your opinion and you can have a lot of opinions on many different topics. A belief is something that is very important to you and it hardly ever wavers. You consistently refer back to this belief and it very well could affect the way your opinions are shaped. Knowledge about something is very important to even form your opinions or have a belief.
2. How do you know when someone is acting rationally?
Someone acting rationally has a calm personality, they are making a decision based on a clear mind. Someone who is acting rationally makes a decision and does so on a less emotional aspect. Opposed to a irrational person who makes a decision based on anger, sadness or even being overly happy about something.
My interpretation of what Carly was saying was that knowledge is important and that we have to have some type of knowledge in order to form opinions and beliefs. We have to have been taught and learned something (formal education or not) in order to form an personal opinion/belief.
1. What is the difference between opinion, belief, and knowledge?
Opinion is what someone thinks, it's what they have come up with on their own. It is the thoughts that they have formed with little or no influence from others. Belief is what they learn from others such as family or friends. Beliefs are normally passed down in a family, but depending on someone's opinion the beliefs can change. Knowledge is what people have learned based on experiences, people's influences and their own opinions. To have a better understanding because of an increase in knowledge, then beliefs and opinions can be solidified so that someone knows what they believe and what their opinion is and can stand by what they know and understand.
2. How do you know when someone is acting rationally?
To know of someone is acting rationally, the consequences of their actions must be looked at. If their action affect someone else and can harm someone, then they are acting irrational. There is a limit when someone is acting rational, like Erick said if they are acting based on emotions, people tend to not be thinking rational enough to make difficult decisions. A person should be of sound, mind, and body to be considered rational.
1. An opinion is a personal view one has on certain things that may be supported with evidence. A belief is faith in someone or something without any evidence. Knowledge is information and skills people gain though experience that can be back up with evidence.
2. A person acts rational when they are capable of understanding the costs and benefits of a situation and are able to make a decision after weighing them out. They need to clear their mind of all emotional stresses and decide what is best in that situation.
1. Opinion is a view that needs to be supported if one wants to make a wide claim. It is one's own thoughts on something that may not be qualified as true or false. A belief is something that someone has no physical evidence to back up but they have faith that it is true. Knowledge is physical evidence of something that has been taught to someone. It is something that one can make sure it is true.
2. Rationality comes from the fact that someone knows what they are doing. They know the benefits and the consequences and they still proceed to make the decision. A person that acts rationally looks at both the present time and the future and decides the best thing for them to do, looking only at that one decision and others aside (unless they directly correlate).
1) What is the difference between opinion, belief, and knowledge?
An opinion is formed by a personal view or estimate that is insufficient until proven to be true. A belief, is something one believes in or has learned to believe in. Religion is an example of a belief. Finally, knowledge is a described as a definitive answer gained by facts and truths through mental apprehension.
2) How do you know when someone is acting rationally?
Someone is acting rationally when they seem mentally stable and are able to make logical decisions on their own along with weighing out the concepts of the good and the bad. A clear understanding of the situation is also a sign of someone acting rationally.
In my eyes, an opinion is a one-sided belief about a particular subject because of a persons emotions towards the subject. One the other hand a belief is the inner morals and values that a person holds to govern their life. The last of the three being knowledge is the facts that a person gains through life experience.
The question asked second is tough to answer. My best answer I would say someone is acting rationally when they are less biased about the situation. The more emotion tied to the situation, most of the time it is harder to make an unbiased decision. If a person acts in a calm and cool fashion that is usually a good sign.
What is the difference between opinion, belief, and knowledge? An opinion is not based on fact and can differ vastly- it is something that can change and be easily persuaded. A belief is more deeply rooted type of opinion based on viewpoint, faith, or trust. A And knowledge is the more factual information or set of skills that one knows.
How do you know when someone is acting rationally? A person acting rationally typically is able to understand their own actions or choices and those of others as well. They are well-informed and are typically in a calm and controlled environment with little to no outside pressure.
1. To me, an opinion is a personal statement, a one-sided thought coming from an individual person. A belief is a stronger opinion that comes from within that we have been raised to believe in through faith. As for knowledge, it is something we know based on facts and real life experience.
2. How to tell if someone is acting rational or not is if they are well-informed and making local decisions to greater the situation. If someone is looking at a situation from both sides, and is not biased to one particular side, I would say they are acting rational. This also depends on the situation they are in.
I would say an opinion is an idea someone holds based on knowledge and belief. I think belief is something a person feels that may or may not be supported by one's knowledge. Knowledge is information that a person holds to be a fact. To me, none of these are more "correct" than each other. "Facts" are always changing and by claiming knowledge you are putting your beliefs into something or someone that gave you the information. Beliefs could change based on experiences and opinions can change as because one's beliefs and knowledge can change.
You really cannot know if someone is acting rationally. You can only guess based on how the person is acting in whatever situation they are in. It comes down to using your opinions, beliefs, and knowledge to gauge the person.
Opinion is a thought you have on a certain issue that can be swayed by possible new information that you learn about said issue. It is also possible that your opinions on certain things can change over time, for instance with age or new experiences. Belief is a more solid thought on an issue, something that is likely less swayed by new information. Although that is not to say that beliefs cannot also change over a lifetime. Knowledge is something that can be gathered and learned and has the potential to sway an opinion or a belief.
Although it is not always completely clear whether someone is acting rationally because we are not able to 100% know their true knowledge and understanding when making a decision there are cues that can indicate a rational decision. A person must be in a right state of mind meaning that they are not on any sort of recreational or pharmaceutical drugs or alcohol that would cause them to act not as themselves. Also, a person must be in a correct psychological state, as in not having a disease or being in a situation that would cause them to think differently. For example, you would not ask someone who was in a serious car accident that may be in shock to make life altering decisions. Lastly, a person needs to be completely informed and have a thorough understanding of all facts and knowledge in a situation in order to think rationally and make a rational decision in said situation.
An opinion is a personal belief or judgment that is not founded on proof or certainty but personal bias. An opinion is a person's ideas and thoughts towards something. It is a view, or judgement formed in a person's mind about a particular matter.
A belief is any content held as true and is assent to a proposition. This means that an individual is convinced of the truth of a statement or allegation without any hesitation. An example is religious faith.
Knowledge is any type of cognitive understanding acquired by experience or education of a practical subject. Knowledge must be based on certainty, evidence, practicality, and a broad agreement among a large number of people.
A person is considered thinking rationally when they are unhibited by any type of substance or external pressures such as people and are not controlled by emotions.
I feel that knowledge is the most straightforward of these three. Knowledge implies that something is without a doubt true and backed in facts. Belief and Opinion are not necessarily based fact or knowledge but very much can be. A belief holds more of an attachment or personal ownership than an opinion does which seems to be almost more vague than a belief. I also think that an opinion acknowledges that there are other schools of thought that could be supported but you have chose to support your opinion which you believe is the most correct.
Someone is acting rationally when it is clear that they have full knowledge of the consequences of their actions. Of course, it is hard to see all the outcomes but one is not acting rationally when they act upon impulse or their first thought rather than fully analyzing the situation before acting upon it.
1. Opinion- a preference for something, very subjective, cannot be true or false. Belief- something that one holds to be true based on faith. Cannot be proven right or wrong. Knowledge- information supported by facts, data, or other quantitative measures. It can be true or false.
2. To me, acting rationally consists of 2 parts. The first deals with the state the person is in. To act rationally, someone should have time to think about the options, no outside influence, and have sufficient knowledge about the subject. The second part is the actual decision they made. This decision should be the same, or almost the same as a large portion of the population, given the same set of circumstances.
Opinion is what someone's view or judgment based on a combination of belief and knowledge. Belief is someone believes wholeheartedly into something based on personal experiences and what they come to believe in as fact. Knowledge is information that has been proven to be true.
You can tell when someone is acting rationally when someone can walk through their complete side of the argument and can understand where the other side is coming from.

2. How do you know when someone is acting rationally?\ Opinion is based on your own personal view on something. Belief is based off of something like culture or what you have always been around. Knowledge is based off of what you have learned or research.
When someone is acting rational you have a clear understanding of them and you know that they have a clear mind. They do not use their opinions, belief to make a decision they use what is right at the time to make the best decision possible.

As others have previously said, opinion can consider other outlooks on certain things but not necessarily accept them. Knowledge is acquired through education and experience and can lead to opinions and beliefs being formed. 2. Someone is acting rationally when they are acting with good judgement and acting with reason. They act logically and consider the consequences of their actions.

Rationality does not mean being a perfectionist in one's thoughts and ideas. It does not require you to spend enormous amounts of time evaluating every idea. It does not require you to learn everything there is to know. Rationality means acting according to reason. It means accepting only that which you have reason to believe. Does being rational always have to do with logics? Are there other factors that can affect that?
